For me an interesting city nearby is Vigo in Spain an hour’s drive from Ancora. It has a fishing industry, an impressive harbor with steel coasters, fishing boats and smaller versions that commute to the beautiful Ons en Cies Islands. After buying a house in the Minho, Northern Portugal, I divided my time between Amsterdam and Ancora. From 2007 to 2010 my paintings were more personal and kind of figurative. As an experiment I added text fragments and also used gold and silver as an addition to my usual blue tones, I was searching for something new.
