Painting
Pandemic
My work in 2021 seems to be largely inspired by the Santa Luzía and the Argas mountains which I can see from my house and from the garden. The sky and the mountains are separated by a sharp line. A stark contrast. Above all is quiet. Below it is dark and turbulent. The border area is capricious. A metaphor for my mental state: the inability to change, my difficulty in pushing boundaries and sometimes going beyond them. Looking at a mountain gives insight into one’s own mind. I struggle with my limitations. If you don’t look, there won’t be a painting. While painting, looking remains essential: where does it rattle, where is the use of color incorrect, where does the work outside the painting not continue sufficiently and where is the painting direction not right.
